How to Use Shan PDF Editor

Welcome to Shan PDF Editor. This guide will walk you through our specialized "Edit and Merge" workflow, designed to let you annotate, arrange, and combine multiple PDF files without ever sending your sensitive documents to a server.

Our Privacy Promise: In-Browser Editing

Before you begin, note the message at the top of our editor: "Your PDFs never leave your browser for ultimate privacy."

Our technology processes all your editing actions locally on your device. We never see, scan, or store your documents.

1 🚀 Step 1: Upload Your Files

Your starting point is always the main workspace area. Locate and click the large purple button labeled Upload PDF(s) to Merge/Edit.

In the file selection window that appears, you can select one or multiple PDF files to upload into the workspace.

Tip: While your documents are uploading, you might see the instructional text: "Upload PDF files and click the Upload PDF(s) to Merge/Edit button to start." Once your files load, the real-time editor view will open.

2 ✏️ Step 2: Annotate and Edit Your Pages

Once your files are loaded, you can actively edit the currently visible page using the annotation toolbar:

Action Control to Use How it Works
Draw Pen Button Select this to draw, sign, or highlight freely on the page.
Erasing Eraser Button Use this to remove any Pen marks you've made.
Add Text Add Text Button Click this to create a text box and type anywhere on the document.
Select Color Color Selector Click the colored block to change the active color for your Pen or Text.
Adjust Size Size Slider Drag this slider to make your pen lines or text font larger or smaller.

3 📂 Step 3: Manage Your Pages and Order

If you uploaded multiple files, you might need to organize them before finishing. Use the controls on the top-right to manage the currently displayed page:

Reorder Pages:
  • Click Move Up to move the current page earlier in your merged document.
  • Click Move Down to move the current page later.
Remove Pages:
  • Click the red Delete Current Page button to permanently remove the page you are currently viewing.
Split Pages:

Once you upload your PDF file, simply delete the pages you don’t need. Then download the file, refresh the website, and delete the other pages you don’t need and download them. Now you have two PDF files with different pages.

Redact Information on the PDF:

Upload your PDF file. Then click on the Pen tool and choose the size of the pen and the colour. Brush over the information you want to redact and download the PDF file.

4 💾 Step 4: Finish and Download

When you are satisfied with your edits and the order of your pages, it’s time to save your work. You have two final output options at the bottom of the workspace:

Choice A (Merge & Edit More)

Click Merge & Open to consolidate all your pages into a single, combined file and reload it into the editor. This is useful for final text-adding passes across merged documents.

Choice B (Save Final Draft)

Click Download Annotated PDF to generate and download the final file with all Pen marks, Text annotations, and Page arrangements preserved.

🔧 Pro-Tips and Troubleshooting
  • Undo/Clear: If you make a mistake, using the Eraser is best for free-drawing. For text boxes, select the box itself to delete it.
  • Browser-Based Limits: Extremely large files (e.g., 500MB+) might run your browser out of memory. Try splitting massive documents into smaller segments if you experience crashes.
  • "Only PDF Editor You Need!": Remember the yellow banner at the top? This specialized tool is best used for page management and manual annotations.
